Novello, part of the Music Sales Group, is delighted to announce a concert at London’s Royal Festival Hall, to celebrate 200 years of music publishing. Cellist Raphael Wallfisch and the presenter Aled Jones will join David Hill, The Bach Choir and the Philharmonia Orchestra on a journey through two centuries of great classics published by Novello. The concert includes music by Handel, Mendelssohn, Arnold, Elgar and Parry; film music by Addinsell and Bliss; choral music by Holst and Tarik O’Regan; newly commissioned fanfares from John McCabe and Patrick Hawes, as well as new arrangements from Richard Rodney Bennett, David Hill and John Rutter.

Since the early nineteenth century Novello has played a central role in British musical life and has enriched the amateur choral market as well as general concert repertoire. Two hundred years ago Vincent Novello was the first publisher to make sheet music available to the music-loving general public at an affordable price. Elgar was the first internationally renowned composer to be signed to Novello, followed by Bliss, Dyson, Holst, Howells and Moeran. From the 1970s the list increased with the signing of Richard Rodney Bennett, Kenneth Leighton, John McCabe, Aulis Sallinen and Thea Musgrave amongst others. Since joining the Music Sales Group in 1993, Novello has enjoyed an enhanced international presence with the addition of a new generation of composers such as Martin Creed, Stuart MacRae and Tarik O’Regan.

In addition to marking this bicentenary with The Best of British concert, Novello will be launching two new series of choral music – available for digital download as well as in sheet music form – continuing to take the provision of music into the digital age. This music and much more from the catalogues will be available from musicroom.com, sheetmusicdirect.com and in all good music shops.
