Vienna Phil to perform Salonen’s Violin Concerto
After a ravishing performance of his Piano Concerto in 2010, Esa-Pekka Salonen will return to the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra with his Violin Concerto. The Austrian premiere will be presented by Julia Fischer as part of an all Beethoven programme. The Leonoren Overture No 2 and the Violin Concerto were both premiered at the Theater an der Wien and will return to the venue under the baton of Esa-Pekka Salonen. This is the final concert in a series entitled Beethoven am Uraufführungsort (Beethoven at the venue of the world premieres) performed by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.

Esa-Pekka Salonen’s Violin Concerto has proven to be extremely successful with over 20 performances within the four years since its creation in 2009, and many renowned soloists having presented it including Leila Josefowicz, Thomas Zehetmair, Patricia Kopaschinskaja, Pekka Kuusisto to name a few. It was released on CD at the end of last year on Deutsche Grammophon with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra pairing the Concerto with the orchestral work Nyx.
