Thursday February 8, sees the world premiere of Two Lieder for violin and orchestra by Hans Abrahamsen. 14 minutes long, the work is written for the soloist Christina Åstrand and the Danish National Symphony Orchestra.

The idea of re-composition and reimagining musical material is close to Abrahamsen’s heart. He continuously reimagines his own music and transforms it.

Two lieder has been underway for several years. Some of this music has surfaced throughout Abrahamsen's career. The first movement, Liebeslied, is inspired by a work Hans Abrahamsen wrote for Ensemble Recherche. The second movement Herbstlied is based on an older song for voice and small ensemble with text by Rainer Maria Rilke and quotations from Danish art folk songs as well as Johan Sebastian Bach. The material has also appeared in the 3rd movement of his double concerto for violin and piano.
