Zurich Chamber Singers

Novello composer Paul Mealor has been commissioned to compose a choral opera. The new fifty-minute work for chorus and saxophone quartet will be premiered and toured by Zurich Chamber Singers and sonic.art saxophone quartet, directed by Christian Erny.

The Light of Paradise is Mealor’s exploration of the life of medieval mystic and theologian Margery Kempe. Commissioned by the Zurich Chamber Singers, this work describes Margery’s inner journey and struggle to her marriage with Christ and faith. The texts are taken from the Book of Margery Kempe and are illustrated in 14 movements simultaneously with the Stations of the Cross.
