A new CD of the music of Edward Gregson is to be recorded in June at the Henry Wood Hall in London, on the Chandos Records label. Entitled Music for Symphonic Brass and Percussion, it will feature two large-scale works: Symphony in two movements and Music of the Angels, together with various fanfares written over many years, and some brass chamber music: Quintet for Brass, Aria for Philip and Three Dance Episodes for Brass Octet.
The music will be performed by London Brass one of the most prestigious 10-piece brass ensembles in the world, and conducted by Martyn Brabbins. To enlarge the ensemble for the big symphonic works, London Brass will be joined by some of the best known professional brass players in the UK, including Philip Cobb, James Fountain, David Childs, Richard Watkins and Michael Thompson, to name but a few. Martyn Brabbins, currently Music Director at English National Opera, is an inspirational force in British music and a specialist in contemporary repertoire.
Chandos Records is one of the world’s premier classical music record companies and is best known for its ground breaking search for neglected musical gems. Four Gregson ‘volumes’ of concertos and symphonic music have been released on this label to date.
