Mark Adamo burst onto the lyric stage 20 years ago with his libretto and score to Little Women, an opera inspired by the eponymous Alcott classic that has since enjoyed over one hundred engagements worldwide. Comparable acclaim greeted the ensuing premieres of Lysistrata and his harp concerto Four Angels. Adamo's third full-length opera, the fervent The Gospel of Mary Magdalene, was followed by his latest acclaimed opera, Becoming Santa Claus, a sparkling coming-of-age holiday tale.

In the intimacy of New York City's National Sawdust space, Adamo will be in conversation with LOG Journal editor Steve Smith and joined by a stellar cast including Matt Boehler, Daniel T. Curran, Kara Dugan, Keith Phares, and Momenta Quartet performing highlights — especially arranged by Adamo for this occasion — from all four operas, as well as Aristotle, a setting of the Billy Collins poem commissioned and introduced by Thomas Hampson and the Jupiter String Quartet in May 2013.

This event honors Adamo's remarkable talents, provides a unique chance to hear insights into his creative process and cause to celebrate the recent release of Dallas Opera's Becoming Santa Claus on Blu-ray & DVD.

Becoming Santa Claus stars mezzo-soprano Jennifer Rivera as the conflicted Queen Sophine, tenor Jonathan Blalock as the troubled Prince Claus, and bass Matt Boehler singing the dual roles of Donkey/Messenger. This lively new work also featured Keith Jameson, Kevin Burdette, and Grammy winners Hila Plitmann and Lucy Schaufer, as a quartet of scheming palace elves.

'…a superbly conceived and crafted opera… In its score Becoming Santa Claus offers dizzying complexity but produces constantly engaging, striking musical effects… Becoming Santa Claus is an impressive literary and musical accomplishment'.
— Wayne Lee Gray, American Record Guide

'A wild Christmas gift… a delightfully inventive and over-the-top holiday show that explores Santa's backstory with wit and whimsy'.
— Catherine Womack, D Magazine
