Steven Isserlis premieres last Tavener work
In an exclusive event, Steven Isserlis will premiere a new version of Preces and Responses (2013) by John Tavener in The Chapel, Balliol College, Oxford. The concert will be held on the evening of 7 September 2017, and will be followed by a fund raising dinner at Balliol College Hall attended by the world-renowned cellist and Lady Tavener.

Steven Isserlis and seven other cellists; David Waterman, Amy Norrington, Caroline Dearnley, Matt Huber, Bartholomew Lafollette, Vashti Hunter and Chiara Enderle, will premiere an arrangement of Sir John Tavener’s last completed work plus an arrangement of one of Tavener’s settings of his Three Shakespeare’s Sonnets, Sonnet LXXI: No longer mourn for me when I am dead, first performed a few days after Tavener’s death, and dedicated to his wife Maryanna. The concert will be held at 7:30pm in The Chapel at Balliol College, Oxford, followed by the dinner at Balliol College at 8:30pm. The proceeds will go the Tavener Foundation, to go towards a recording of Sir John Tavener’s last works. The evening will be supported by the Temenos Academy of which Sir John was a Fellow.
