News - Class of ’38: American mavericks Corigliano, Harbison, and Tower turn 80

Joan Tower, John Harbison, John Corigliano
Monday, July 31, 2017
Three milestone birthdays are just around the corner in 2018: Turning 80 are John Corigliano (February 16), Joan Tower (September 6), and John Harbison (December 20), three of the most titanic and beloved figureheads in American composition.

Shared between them are multiple Pulitzer Prizes, Grawemeyer Awards, GRAMMY Awards, an Academy Award, and a MacArthur “Genius” Grant. The collective impact of their individual careers on contemporary music – through teaching professorships, wide-ranging curation and collaboration, and their music itself – is unparalleled.

The complete works of Corigliano, Tower, and Harbison are available for perusal on our website, via access to digitally viewable scores for orchestral and large ensemble works.

Below, a collection of essential orchestral works by each composer for your consideration for 2018-19 programming.
