Frida Kahlo by Toni Frissell (1937)
Legendary Mexican artist Frida Kahlo lived a passionate and troubled life. The artist and her intensely personal work continue to be a great inspiration to millions around the globe.

As a testament to Frida's enduring power to inspire, Robert Xavier Rodríguez's chamber opera Frida (with book by Hilary Blecher and lyrics and monologues by Migdalia Cruz) is enjoying an ongoing renaissance of performances this year. Michigan Opera Theater debuted a highly-praised new production directed by Jose Maria Condemi in Spring 2015. This production returns at Cincinnati Opera June 23-July 8 for seven performances with Catalina Cuervo in the title role.

Meanwhile, out on the west coast is an all-new production at Long Beach Opera with five performances June 17-25, staged by Andreas Mitisek, LBO’s General and Artistic Director, with Laura Virella singing Frida. The Long Beach performances take place at the Museum of Latin American Art with one performance in downtown LA at Grand Performances.

We know Frida would be proud!
