Ensemble intercontemporain opens its 40th season with two events at the Philharmonie de Paris curated by Bryce Dessner. Both evenings highlight Dessner’s ability to create diverse, boundary pushing and exceptionally rewarding programmes that combine a multitude of genres and artists.

The first, Grand Soir takes place on September 24 and includes the world premiere of Wires, a new work by Dessner commissioned and performed by Ensemble intercontemporain and conducted by Matthias Pintscher. It will receive a second performance on October 8 at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam as part of the renowned ZaterdagMatinee concert series.

The second event in Paris, Invisible Bridge takes place on September 25 and aims to connect the United States with Europe with performances from various artists that Dessner has worked with throughout his career. Included are his brother and close collaborator Aaron Dessner, singer Justin Vernon (Bon Iver), and the Labèque sisters.

Dessner’s music has numerous performances in Europe this autumn including orchestral concerts by Kristjan Järvi and the MDR Sinfonieorchester, several performances of Letter 27 with one at the Bienniale Musica in Venice, and the world premiere of a new work for solo harp written for Lavinia Meijer.
