News - New ballet with music by Hans Abrahamsen

Thursday, May 26, 2016
Music by Hans Abrahamsen features in Shaken Mirror (Rystet Spejl), the new ballet choreographed by Kim Brandstrup which premieres on May 28 at The Royal Danish Playhouse in Copenhagen. The Royal Danish Ballet will dance to Abrahamsen’s Schnee and also music from his Double Concerto in the new production.

Søren Ulrik Thomsen is indisputably one of Denmark’s greatest poets, and in the ballet Shaken Mirror his words are for the first time translated into dance. Choreographer Kim Brandstrup has previously created several works based on literary sources, including Brothers inspired by Dostoyevsky and Anatomy of a Storyteller inspired by Hans Christian Andersen. Now, on the large revolving stage of the Royal Danish Playhouse, he along with set designer Bente Lykke Møller creates three distinct stories in addition to a gallery of characters drawn from across Thomsen’s authorship. In a universe of movement, video, lyric and music inhabited by dancers between the ages of 6 and 70, Shaken Mirror revolves around the greatest of all things – life, love and death – in addition to the tangible and corporeal – the body, the chair and the teacup.

Shaken Mirror is at The Royal Danish Plahouse from May 28 until June 4.
