Listen: Mythical Creatures
The physical world and the realm of imagination are filled with many intriguing creatures that inspire works of art. In some cases, this inspiration evokes new conceptions of the creatures themselves that depict the mystique and fantasy of life. Program these mythically inspired works and immerse your audiences in the composers' imaginations.

Canvasing John Corigliano's The Cloisters, Bright Sheng's The Phoenix, Bent Sørenson's Den Lille Havfrue (The Little Mermaid) and Elliott Carter's The Minotaur, this playlist contains well-known works suitable for audiences new to classical music as well as those well-versed in the concert experience. These selections are mainly for voice or chorus and orchestra, while The Minotaur is a ballet. Works by Malcolm Arnold, Geoffrey Burgon, Morton Gould, Terry Riley and Tan Dun are also included.

"And above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don't believe in magic will never find it."
— Roald Dahl
