At the end of September and the beginning of October there will be a Celebration of John Tavener
at the Barbican, London.
In what would have been his 70th birthday year, to open their Barbican season, Britten Sinfonia gives the world premiere of one of Tavener’s last completed works, Flood of Beauty
on September 28
. The work is a setting of a Sanskrit poem through which Tavener returned to his perennial theme of the Eternal Feminine.
The oboe concerto Kaleidoscopes
will be performed the following day at Milton Court Concert Hall
with Nicholas Daniel as soloist.
Then, on Sunday October 5 there is a whole day devoted to Tavener’s life and work – the BBC Symphony Orchestra Total Immersion: John Tavener Remembered
, including choral & chamber music
, films and a roundtable
, a learning performance
and then an evening concert
with the BBC Symphony Orchestra including the Akhmatova Requiem
, and The Protecting Veil.
