An Ivor for John McCabe

An Ivor for John McCabe
Novello composer John McCabe has today (22 May) been presented with The Ivors Classical Music Award at the 59th Ivor Novello Awards ceremony. John, who celebrated his 75th Birthday last month, is the tenth recipient of this award which recognises the outstanding achievements of a composer throughout their career.

John McCabe said:

‘This award is a tremendous honour, not only on its own account but also because it comes from the organisation representing music's creators - they understand only too well the problems we share, the disciplines we have in common, and this makes for a community whose respect is to be relished. It is also an award recognising the important place different kinds of music, including classical, have in the fascinating, life-enhancing world of music.’

James Rushton, Managing Director, Chester Music Ltd / Novello & Co remarks:

‘The honouring of John McCabe by his receipt of The Ivors Classical Music Award could not be more fitting. John is a true musician of the highest calibre. He is both a composer whose work sits very comfortably within the great tradition of British classical music and also a performing artist who has been particularly generous to other composers in a lifetime of performances as a virtuoso pianist. We applaud John for his very significant output of instrumental and vocal music across a wide range of genres, and for his important contribution to our musical life over the past many decades.’

Previous recipients from the Music Sales roster include John Tavener, Richard Rodney Bennett, Peter Maxwell Davies and Michael Nyman.
