An Ivor for John McCabe

John McCabe said:
‘This award is a tremendous honour, not only on its own account but also because it comes from the organisation representing music's creators - they understand only too well the problems we share, the disciplines we have in common, and this makes for a community whose respect is to be relished. It is also an award recognising the important place different kinds of music, including classical, have in the fascinating, life-enhancing world of music.’

‘The honouring of John McCabe by his receipt of The Ivors Classical Music Award could not be more fitting. John is a true musician of the highest calibre. He is both a composer whose work sits very comfortably within the great tradition of British classical music and also a performing artist who has been particularly generous to other composers in a lifetime of performances as a virtuoso pianist. We applaud John for his very significant output of instrumental and vocal music across a wide range of genres, and for his important contribution to our musical life over the past many decades.’
