has written the score for Demis Volpi’s new dance piece Aftermath
for the Stuttgart Ballet. The work will receive its world premiere at the Opernhaus Stuttgart in the mixed repertoire evening Wayfarers
on April 17 2014, and run through to June 6. The music will be performed live by the Staatsorchester Stuttgart conducted by James Tuggle.
Demis Volpi has created this new work for nearly 30 female dancers whose pointe shoes play a special role in the piece: the choreographer will explore their potential not only as an instrument of dance, but also in an acoustic and musical way. The shoes create a new soundscape with the sound of their movement merging with Michael Gordon’s music.
Gordon’s compositions have been featured prominently in the dance works of diverse choreographers: Emio Greco|PC, Wayne McGregor (for Stuttgart Ballet, Random Dance), Pina Bausch’s Tanztheater Wuppertal, Heinz Spoerli (for Zürich Ballet), Ashley Page (for The Royal Ballet and The Scottish Ballet) and Club Guy & Roni.
Following his recent production Krabat,
Demis Volpi was appointed to Resident Choreographer of the Stuttgart Ballet. He was awarded the Deutscher Tanzpreis Zukunft prize in March 2014.
