by Hans Jörg Michel
Friday, February 14, 2014
The world premiere of Dominique Dumais‘ dance work Tracing Isadora with music by Kaija Saariaho, Nico Muhly and Henry Cowell will take place on February 28 2014 at the Nationaltheater Mannheim. The music will be performed live by the orchestra of the Nationaltheater Mannheim conducted by Joseph Trafton.
In Tracing Isadora the Ensemble Kevin O’Day Ballett Nationaltheater Mannheim approaches the pioneer of expressionist dance Isadora Duncan (1877-1927) whose working methods – rejecting classical ballet technique, “natural” movements and choosing symphonic music for her dance performances – opened up a new knowledge of the body and new possibilities for the artform of dance at the beginning of the 20th century.

The project is supported by the Tanzfond Erbe (Dance Heritage Fund) – an initiative of the Bundeskulturstiftung (the German Federal Cultural Foundation).
