Nyman 70th Birthday Concert
On Wednesday April 30, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra will perform the first major event of Michael Nyman’s 70th birthday year. The concert at the Royal Festival Hall, London will feature the UK premieres of Where the Bee Dances, Nyman’s saxophone concerto, and also his Violin Concerto. The UK premiere of Symphony No 2, one of a [projected] cycle of 19 symphonies will also take place, conducted by the same conductor who gave the world premiere of Symphony No 6. The RPO will be conducted by Josep Vicent who has worked extensively with Michael Nyman on several projects in recent years.
