Lady Macbeth on new CD
Virgins, Vixens and Viragos is the title of Susan Graham's new CD, released this October on Onyx Classics (Onyx 4105). The 'Viragos' feature Lady Macbeth by Joseph Horovitz, which the celebrated American mezzo, accompanied by Malcolm Martineau, performed in her fourteen-city recital tour of North America, Europe and Australia earlier this year. Her London recital at the Wigmore Hall in June was broadcast live on BBC Radio 3.

Lady Macbeth is a dramatic 'scena', based on three main speeches from Shakespeare's Macbeth, and follows the character from her early aspirations to grandeur and power to her descent into guilt and madness.

Commissioned by the Bergen Festival in 1970, the work was previously recorded by Sarah Walker with Graham Johnson (for Hyperion). It will be performed in her 70th birthday concert at the Wigmore Hall next April by the Kathleen Ferrier prize-winner Kitty Whately, who sang it at the Ferrier Centenary Concert this year.
