The Sax Ensemble conducted by José Luis Temes will premiere Benet Casablancas´s Pastoral on September 27 at the XXVIII Alicante International Music Festival.  Casablancas wrote Pastoral in homage to Xavier Montsalvatge, whose centenary is being celebrated worldwide with activities in many cities including New York, Barcelona, and Madrid. Also that week, the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group conducted by Oliver Knussen will perform Casablancas’ Dove of Peace in Alicante.

In further celebration of Montsalvatge’s centenary, Benet Casablancas has been commissioned by the Foundation for Iberian Music to write a new piece in honour of the elder composer.  Every year the Foundation commissions a work from a prominent composer committed to the artistic exchange between the Americas and Europe, and this year the focus is on Montsalvatge. The work will be premiered on September 28 at the Morgan Library in New York by the Perspectives Ensemble.
