This fall, New York City’s venerable Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) kicks off its 30th Next Wave Festival. The celebration includes two major works by Music Sales composers.
From September 14 – 23, audiences will be swooning over Philip Glass’ Einstein on the Beach, a
hypnotic tableau, inspired by the poetic idea of a genius and propelled by Glass’ sublime score. A cosmic chorus of syllables, numbers, streams of consciousness, and enigmatic poems—punctuated by Lucinda Childs’ choreography—unfurls beneath Wilson’s spectacular set, enlivening this epic, seminal masterwork of 20th-century performance.

Later in the Festival (October 17-20), cellist Maya Beiser presents a surreal cello opera depicting a pair of women—an Henri Michaux heroine and the biblical figure of Lot’s wife—bearing witness at the end of their worlds. Elsewhere features lush, multilayered compositions by Michael Gordon and Missy Mazzoli performed on acoustic/electric cello and electronics with singer Helga Davis and four dancers moving in a dreamlike environment created by director Robert Woodruff.
