It's extraordinary to think that Nymphéa is now almost 20 years old: Saariaho's combination of instruments with live electronics comes up as fresh as ever, and with more sensuous beauty... It's partly the more resonant recording, which doesn't separate the instruments so much in the stereo picture, but it's also the vibrant quality of the playing from Norway's premiere new music quartet - never ugly, even when asked to make extreme demands on the instruments, and always impeccably coloured, balanced and timed.
Martin Cotton, BBC Music Magazine, 9/1/2005

Their playing speaks well of them, though, as does their choice of programme. Saariaho's Nymphea is one of her strongest pieces and, although the recording by the Kronos Quartet on an all-Saariaho disc is strong enough, ECM's exemplary sound works wonders here: the electroacoustics have plenty of bite without any compromise on clarity.
Fabrice Fitch, The Gramophone, 12/1/2005
