Programme Note

The Revd Mustard his Installation Prelude was written for the installation service of my dear friend Reverend James Mustard as rector of The Church of St Mary the Virgin in East Barnet. The main technical conceit of the piece is to have a perpetual motion machine happening between the two hands of the organist, and a long, slowly developing melodic pattern that begins in two voices in the pedals and then migrates up to the left hand. The piece is effervescent and hyper: a fitting welcome for Reverend Mustard to his new surroundings.
