It’s a busy start to the year for Wise Music composers and world-class choreographers.

In a Landscape is a pas de deux with music for solo piano of the same name (In a Landscape) plus Six Melodies for Violin and Keyboard, Nos. 1 and 2 by the modernist composer John Cage. The work was created by the late Albert Evans, former principal dancer with New York City Ballet, and is presented by the company from February 9.

Missy Mazzoli and Robert Binet collaborate on an immersive work, Dark with Excessive Bright, accompanied by Mazzoli’s score of the same name. Made for the Royal Ballet, the work imagines the invisible forces of our universe in human form. The dance captures the growth, decay, chaos, and consistency that always coexist in our world. The music acts as the gravitational force, holding these elements in orbit. Nico Muhly has written music for the world’s leading ballet and dance companies, including Rotunda for Justin Peck and New York City Ballet, who bring the piece to Sadler's Wells in London from March 7. More information here.

For over 15 years Muhly and renowned choreographer Benjamin Millepied have been creating together. Three such collaborations can be enjoyed at the Paris Philharmonie from March 29-31 in an evening-length presentation celebrating this creative partnership. L.A. Dance Project, with innovative ensemble Le Balcon and organist Alexis Grizard, perform Triade and Moving Parts alongside the World Premiere of a new work by Muhly and Millepied. Find out more here.

April 19-21 Cal Performances presents Via Dolorosa, a brand-new choreography by the legendary Mark Morris to Nico Muhly’s The Street, a set of meditations on the fourteen stations of the cross inspired by evocative, mysterious, and poetic texts of Alice Goodman and featuring harpist Parker Ramsay performing the score live. On March 16, a remarkable five dance performances across the United States and United Kingdom will feature music by Oliver Davis: Pacific Northwest Ballet will remount Matthew Neenan’s Bacchus (March 15-24 in Seattle, WA), BalletMet debuts Ma Cong’s Flight of Fancy (March 15-23 in Columbus, OH), and the Joffrey Academy of Dance at the Joffrey Ballet debuts 2024 Winning Works Choreographer Xavier Núñez’s Camillia (March 8-10 & 15-17 in Chicago, IL). Additionally on March 16, North Coast Ballet California will present choreography by Jocelyn Edwards and the London Vocational Ballet will feature choreography by Gavin McCaig.
