BRIEF PROGRAMME NOTE

This Victorian melodrama may be done quite simply orused as the basis for something more elaborate involving scenery, costumes and ‘props’. Or it can be done in any way in between. The songs may be sung by all the voices; or solo voices (characters) may be used to contrast with massed ‘choruses’; or the boys may sing the male songs and a girl, the only female song (twice); and so on. If instruments are used then choose banjo/ukulele rather than guitar; cornet rather than trumpet and so on, if a choice is available; aim for a music hall orchestra sound.
