Programme Note

Composer note:

Thanks Victor, a five-minute medley, of Victor Young tunes, was arranged for the Lydian String Quartet in 1994. The music department at Brandeis University, where the Lydians are in residence, receives royalties from Victor Young’s compositions, and I wanted to make a tribute to Young and the quartet by making this suite, which I imagine is a cross between an imaginary Victor Young Quartet and my own slant on his songs.

Victor Young (1900-1956) wrote music for over a hundred films, as well as many popular songs and orchestral and chamber music. As a young jazz player, I played and loved many of his songs before I knew whose they were.
