Programme Note
John Tavener Three Surrealist Songs (1968)
The Three Surrealist Songs for voice, tape and piano doubling bongos were written for the BBC Radiovision programme in the Autumn of 1968 and were first performed by Honor McKellar and the composer.

The short pieces are settings of poems by Edward Lucie-Smith and are each dedicated to a Surrealist artist – the first to René Magritte, the second to Max Ernst and the third to Salvador Dali.
