Summary

Svend S. Schultz left his native Nykøbing Falster to study piano at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in 1933. Here, he attended Poul Schierbeck’s lectures and debuted as a composer. He was engaged as conductor and director at the Danish Radio Choir in 1949, where he set the standards for Danish choral music for the next 30 years. 

 Schultz the composer is particularly known for his choral works and arrangements of Danish songs, in addition to his short one-act operas. Regrettably, Schultz’ output of instrumental works, counting 5 symphonies and 10 string quartets, has not yet become widespread.

 His most famous tunes include choral favorites such as Yndigt dufter Danmark and Midsommersang.
