Programme Note
These songs were written for Tracey Chadwell. The first two are serious setting of Auden’s moving poems ‘In memory of W B Yeats’ The third song is satirical and in sharp contrast - a randy setting of MacNeice’s.
Tracey Chadwell commissioned these songs with funds provided by Southern Arts. The first performance was given at the Folkestone and Hythe Music Club on 26 October 1985 when Tracey was accompanied by Pamela Lidiard (piano).
