Programme Note

Peter Lieberson’s Piano Concerto was one of twelve works commissioned by the Boston Symphony Orchestra for its centennial, with the piano part intended for Peter Serkin. Lieberson began composing the piece in 1980 and completed it on March 2, 1983. On April 21, 1983, the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Peter Serkin premiered the work under the direction of Seiji Ozawa.
