Programme Note

André Jolivet's Concerto for Trumpet undeniably belongs to modernity, with its rawness inherited from The Rite of Spring, its slow, nocturnal movement reminiscent of Miles Davis, the brutal conciseness of its movements and its incisive, richly percussive orchestration. The solo instrument's brilliant nature is ideally suited to this 'aesthetic of the primitive'.
