Programme Note
The title of this piece has a double meaning.
The form of the piece is very much like a Rondo, a traditional form especially in the Baroque era, where different sections recur with more or less regularity. So one meaning of the title could be the recurrence of "verses" ; reverses.
Also the verses have a tendency to turn themselves "upside down", so that internally the verse becomes a reversion of itself, so to speak, and quickly it becomes impossible to tell which "version" is the original one.
The two recurring kinds of intersected music in the piece are an expressionvise reversion of each other: The first starts fast and get slower and slower, and the other starts slower, expands and then gets faster and faster untill it contracts.
So one can say that the piece is a series of verses and their reversions.
The piece was written for and premiered by, the "Volharding endemble" in Holland, and premiered in "De Eisbrecker" Amsterdam.
