Programme Note
Portrait with Smetana belongs to the shortest among my compositions for orchestra and should as such be verbally introduced by an equally brief programme note. Actually, the title (shamelessly adapted – with a twist – from Heinrich Böll) IS the programme note.
I sincerely hope that when listening to the music a benign smile will form on the lips of those who know and love Moldau and the overture from The Bartered Bride.
