Programme Note

Moving Still is based on two texts by Hans Christian Andersen: a vision of the future and a Danish song. In the first movement young Americans of a future generation rush across Europe in their ‘airship’. They see Europe in a week! Back in 1852 Hans Christian Andersen foresaw that it would come to this. The movement is a tribute to both Andersen and pulsating American minimalism.
In the second movement my own absolutely traditional melody for Andersen’s song ‘I Danmark er jeg født’ (In Denmark I Was Born) is exposed to influences from abroad, including boogie woogie – but it ends Arabstyle!
