Programme Note

Samuel Barber composed the Commemorative March for the wedding of his sister Sarah to Samuel Fulton Beatty on May 4, 1940, in Barber's New York apartment. This brief piece is a great prelude to any concert both as a novelty and as a well-crafted composition with some beautiful soaring melodies and intricate counterpoint.
