Programme Note
All that we cannot say was written for oboist Norman Forget and cellist James Darling from Nouvel Ensemble Moderne.
The piece evolved from earlier work on timbral fingering with oboist Matthias Arter - Some sounds for L. L. (1999), and All the time (2000) - and thanks are also due to Nina Reintoft for her help with the cello part.
Although essentially an instrumental-theatre piece, this work can also be performed within a conventional concert framework, providing that all the aspects of the score are respected. An ideal placing for the piece would be at the very beginning of the concert, or directly after the intermission.
