Programme Note
In Adoremus, I have set the ancient prayer that was used in the Winchester Passion in the 10th century, at the time of King Alfred. To this I have added The Bridal Chamber text from the Orthodox Church, which speaks of the intense spiritual longing of the Soul to be with Christ in his Bridal Chamber.
Three sets of musical material are used in this extended setting of the text, which falls into three sections, each one rising in pitch and intensity. The work ends wiht a serene 'coda' of the sacred syllable 'OM', representing the infinite.
