Programme Note

Using the phrase 'I've turned the page' in conversation implies that you've made a new start and possibly left an old, bad habit behind; as in 'I never used to practise the piano, but now I've turned the page'.

'I've turned the page...' asks the performer to undertake several such drastic transformations within a very short space of time. As each page of the score is turned, and sometimes in between turns, the music's character changes radically. The performer also has to develop rapidly during the five or six minutes it takes to play this piece.

'I've turned the page...' was written as the text piece for the Scottish International Piano Competition 2007.
