Programme Note

'a second box of brief candles' comprises eight more miniatures for solo clarinet, starting with something unnamed and 'feral', followed by 'querencia', which is where the bull likes to come to rest, during the bullfight; the place it feels most comfortable. Then there's a 'burning mirror' followed by 'ash', which is essentially the same piece but with most of it missing. Then, naturally, we have 'exit Death' and 'disappeared', followed by the arrival of a spectre in 'enter ghost', and 'moth' to end.
