Programme Note
This piece was originally written for the Quatuor de flûtes Arcadie, who gave its first performance at the Tampere Biennale in April 1990. The 2nd version (2006) is an arrangement without contrabass flute; also some details of the music have been slightly altered and the articulation markings have been made more accurate.
Remous is dedicated to my dear friend and colleague Usko Meriläinen, on whose 60th birthday it actually was dated: January 27, 1990. I feel deeply sad of the fact that, as far as the 2nd version is concerned, I have to make the dedication to his memory.
