Synopsis:
Set in ancient Egypt, this opera tells the story of the general Ramadès and his love for his Ethiopian slave Aïda. Ramadès has thwarted an Ethiopian invasion, led by King Amonasro, Aïda’s father. Torn between her love for her country and her master, she tricks Ramadès into divulging the Egyptian army’s secret plans which she passes on to Amonasro. Ramadès is condemned to be buried alive and Aïda, unable to contemplate life without him, joins him in his tomb.
