Reviews
. Like the painter's art, Mr. Rodríguez's FRIDA contrasts serene lyricism with a much harsher language that underlines the tragedy of Ms. Kahlo's life. The SUITE uses a singer-narrator to outline the course of [Kahlo's] life. Mr. Rodríguez has created music of lyric beauty as well as pungent dissonance. Episodes of strongly Latin-flavored music reflect the Mexican setting of the piece. Mr. Rodríguez's work makes a haunting tribute to an unforgettable artist who seemed to be damned by fate.
