Aram Khachaturian Masquerade Suite (for orchestra) (1944)
Score available from Classical on Demand

Lush Russian Romanticism pervades these irresistable movements for orchestra that were created originally as incidental music to Lermontov’s drama of the same title.

1. Waltz
2. Nocturne
3. Mazurka
4. Romance
5. Galop

This piece premiered with a reduced orchestra 6 August 1944 and later with a double orchestra 8 November 1944. Both performances by the Symphony Orchestra of All-Union Radio Committee were conducted by S. Gorchakov.
