Programme Note

Ertnos was commissioned by the Greek National Radio and Television Network (Eliniki Radiofonia Teleorasis: ERT) and the Holland Radio and Television Network (Nederlandese Omreop Stichting: NOS), was premiered on March 6, 1987 in Hilversum, Holland, and broadcast live over stations of different countries. The title is derived from the initials of these institutions, "ERTNOS." The piece is based on a group of notes which are used in different ways (set, octatonic scale, modes, etc.) and is using the instruments in idiomatic and virtuosic ways. The piece is in six sections with no interruption, and is separated by the six letters of the title, i.e. 1:E 2:R 3:T 4:N 5:O 6:S. The last section is the longest and has the form of theme and variations. — Theodore Antoniou
