Programme Note
This piece was written in 1959 especially for the PJBE (Philip Jones Brass Ensemble). After the recording was issued the BBC used the opening five bars as the signature for the Open University both on radio and television.
The second movement has also been used by the BBC as the theme music for a childrens serieal on BBC1 and a serialized story on Radio 4.
