Programme Note
In this work, our common cultural background, manifests itself in a short procession of old, but straight forms. They manifest as four ballads from the Middle Ages. They move forward together at a leisurely tempo, on top of one another, layer upon layer. It is difficult to imagine that it works: leaving each melody on its own and having them play together at the same time in a good way. But it does!
