- Geoffrey Burgon
Fanfare on one note (1985)
- Chester Music Ltd (World)
Commissioned by the Union Discount Company
Programme Note
This short piece is built on three easily identifiable motifs. The ‘one note’ of the title is a B flat which sounds throughout. There is a chordal coda in which the supremacy of the B flat is challenged and finally vanquished by the D of the horns.
The Fanfare was commissioned by the Union Discount Company of London plc in 1985 for their Centenary celebrations and first performed on 1 May 1985 by the London Symphony Orchestra Ensemble at the Barbican Centre.
