Programme Note
The choral cycle Miroir des poèmes, for double choir, two string quartets and double bass, comprises settings of 22 poems by the French poet and perennialist philosopher Jean Biès (b. 1933). It was commissioned by the Vancouver Chamber Choir (Jon Washburn, Conductor) to mark their 40th Anniversary in 2011, with major funding from the Arts Partners in Creative Development. Androcosme is the tenth movement in the work, and forms part of the central section described by Tavener as "the metaphysical and mystical centre of the piece”.
