Programme Note
Dualis, Liederbuch nach Texten von Pablo Neruda und Alfredo Pessao, arose from the ruins of another ‘Liederbuch’ that I wrote in 1987 over text fragments from Müller/Schubert’s Die schöne Müllerin. I found many of my practical and musical solutions in this first version unsatisfactory (text fragments deformed by the computer, percussion instruments for the singer etc.). So I decided to take the basic idea of the piece, two widely different musical characters that can’t be reconciled - emphasized in this version by two very different texts - and to give it all a clear and unambiguous formal progression.
