Programme Note

This collection of piano pieces with its double sequence depicts the course of a day – the day summer came.

The titles are of an invocative nature. They are not meant to reveal anything about the style of the music, but should rather serve as a direct guide to the musical expression which is desired. It is, of course, possible to play the entire sequence of pieces in the given order, but this is unimportant except in a genuine performance situation, which is unlikely to arise in the case of the very young players for whom the pieces are intended. Each piece is an independent entity and can also be freely combined with others.

My Spring Diary is mainly intended for pupils who have studied the piano for at least two years. Part I includes pieces for three and four hands, and the parts are interchangeable to the ability of the pupil. A few pieces in Part I can be played after one year’s study. Part II is for solo performance and is much more demanding.

My Spring Diary will serve as an introduction to some newer principles of notation, which we hope will be useful aid to pupil and teacher alike.
