Berlin Engines Set to Music was commissioned by DaimlerChrysler AG.
The first performance was given by the Deutsche Sinfonie-Orchester Berlin, conducted by Kent Nagano, on 2nd October 2002 at the celebration of the 100th anniversary of DaimlerChrysler AG’s factory in Berlin Marienfelde.
The performance incorporates pre-recorded engine sounds, with six ‘solo’ roles for (1.) V8 Diesel, (2.) Smart, (3.) V12 Maybach, (4.) V12 S-Klasse, (5.) Daimler’s First Engine (also known as Grandfather Clock) and (6.) Daimler Simplex, and supporting roles for the Benz Vis-à-viz, Daimler Belt Driven, Benz First Car, Daimler Knight, Maybach, Motorcycle & Daimler Simplex and Benz Velo.
